Photographed on a horse shoe lake off the Pascagoula River in Southeastern Mississippi.
The Pascagoula River is the last major undamed river in the U.S. The current threat to the river is a plan to pump 50 million gallons of water a day for 5 years out of the river to wash out a salt dome so that it can be used as a strategic oil reserve. The 50 million gallons a day of salt slurry, that's 10 times the salinity of sea water, will be dumped off the Gulf coast just beyond the barrier islands.
